Which PADI course should I start with?
If you have never breathed underwater before, start with Discover Scuba Diving (€40). It is a half day with an instructor by your side, no theory exams and no certificate needed, and it counts toward the Open Water course if you continue. If you already know you love it, go straight to the PADI Open Water Diver course (€330): over 3 to 4 days you learn the theory, master the skills, and finish with a license that lets you dive anywhere in the world to 18 meters.
Short on holiday time? The PADI Scuba Diver course (€220) covers the first half of Open Water in just 2 days and certifies you to dive to 12 meters with a professional. You can upgrade it to the full Open Water later, at home or on your next Red Sea trip.
Already certified? The Advanced Open Water course (€300) is five adventure dives over 2 to 3 days, including a deep dive to 30 meters and underwater navigation, and it opens up the best Hurghada wrecks and walls. From there the path continues to Rescue Diver (€350), Emergency First Response (€180), the Enriched Air Nitrox specialty (€75), and the professional Divemaster program (€1,000).
Why learn to dive in Hurghada and Makadi Bay?
The Red Sea is one of the easiest places on the planet to learn diving: warm water from 21 to 29 degrees all year, 20 to 30 meter visibility, and calm, shallow training sites minutes from shore. Your first real dives happen over living coral gardens with anthias, butterflyfish, and turtles, not in a murky lake.
Our diving school runs courses from two bases. In Hurghada, training dives start from the boat at sheltered reef sites around the Giftun islands. In Makadi Bay, you can choose to spend your first day in a heated hotel swimming pool before moving to the house reef, which is the most relaxed way to take your first breaths underwater. Both options finish with the same certification; you simply pick the start that suits you.
Dive Red Sea is a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort and licensed by CDWS, the Egyptian Chamber of Diving and Watersports. Groups stay small, with a maximum of 6 divers per instructor, and beginner training is often closer to one to one.
How a course week actually looks
Day one starts with paperwork, equipment fitting, and confined water skills in the pool or a shallow bay: clearing your mask, recovering your regulator, and getting comfortable. Theory runs alongside, either as PADI e-learning you finish before the holiday or short sessions at the dive center.
From day two you move to real dive sites. Open Water students complete four training dives, each one a genuine reef dive where skills take a few minutes and the rest is simply diving. Most students finish on the third or fourth day with the certification processed the same week.
Course prices include your instructor, all training dives, tanks, weights, and the pool or shallow water session. E-learning materials, the certification card, and dive insurance are the only extras, and we always show them clearly before you book.

Yes. Many of our guests dive for the first time with us. You start in shallow water or the pool with a professional instructor who stays with you the whole time.
Course and intro prices include the equipment you use during training. For daily diving, equipment rental is 15 EUR per day if you do not bring your own.
Yes. For the PADI Open Water course you choose how you start. Option one begins from the boat at shallow Red Sea sites. Option two begins in the heated hotel swimming pool, then continues in the sea.
Yes. At Makadi Bay you can start your first training day in a heated hotel swimming pool, which is a comfortable way to learn the basics before the sea.
We recommend a gap of at least 18 to 24 hours between your last dive and your flight. Tell us your flight time and we will plan your dives safely.
We have three bases. Hurghada, in the Pharaoh Azur Resort, is best for daily boat diving and reef trips. Makadi Bay, in the Siva Grand Makadi, is best for shore diving, calm training, and the heated pool first day. Marsa Alam, in the Amarina Jannah Resort further south, has wild reefs, shore and boat diving, and rare marine life like dugongs and dolphins.
